Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Every election matters to Operating Engineers — not because of a political party, but because
the decisions made after Election Day can have a direct impact on our jobs, our wages, our safety,
The people we elect make decisions about infrastructure investment, energy development, data
centers, worker safety, prevailing wages, apprenticeship programs, and our right to organize and
bargain collectively. Those decisions can mean more projects and more opportunities for IUOE
members — or fewer of them.
That’s why we’re asking every IUOE member to do something simple: pay attention, get informed
and participate in this year’s election.
We know our members don’t all think alike politically — and we don’t expect them to. Our union
includes Republicans, Democrats, independents and everything in between. There are plenty of
issues outside the workplace that each of us weighs differently.
But there are also issues that bring us together as Operating Engineers.
Good jobs. Fair wages. Safe workplaces. Strong benefits. A voice on the job. And the opportunity to
build, operate and maintain the infrastructure and energy systems that keep this country moving.
When you look at the candidates on your ballot, take some time to learn where they stand on the
issues that affect you as an Operating Engineer. Look beyond the television commercials and social
media posts. Ask who supports infrastructure investment. Who supports strong labor standards and
safe workplaces. Who respects collective bargaining. And who understands the value of a highly
trained union workforce.
At the end of the day, your vote belongs to you. Make it an informed one.
We encourage you to learn more about these candidates, look at their records and positions,
and make your own decision. Most importantly, make your voice heard on Election Day.
This is our union. These are our jobs. This is our future. Participate.
In solidarity,
JLD
